First Safari Den Winter Mountain Bike Tour launched

The first Safari Den Winter Mountain Bike Tour will take place from 14 – 17 May 2015. This event is a first for mountain biking in Namibia in collaboration with Agra’s Safari Den and promises to add a different dimension to local mountain biking. The aim of this tour, sponsored by Safari Den, is exactly what this business’ tagline states: “Get out there and have fun”. “The ride is a family event that can be done in any format as it is aimed at fun and not racing’” says Johan Fourie, organiser of the event. The balance between long distances and lots of opportunities to take a break; challenging stretches and easy parts makes it a mountain biking opportunity for experienced as well as beginner riders. The fun and beauty of the surroundings will be an equal reward to all, riders and supporters.

The tour will cover a total distance of about 360km over three days on district roads, with an optional 100km on the fourth day. The route will take cyclists from Windhoek toe Omaruru and via Erindi Lodge back to Okahandja.
On Thursday, 14 May, riders will start at Matchless on the Daan Viljoen road and spend the day on the road for ± 120 km up to Wilhelmstal, where the back-up vehicles will pick up the riders to drive to Omaruru.
The group will spend the night at Kashana Lodge in Omaruru, from where a round trip will be taken on day two, Friday, 15 May, to the Vingerklip Lodge and after lunch back to Kashana Lodge. This will be the longest day with a distance of 160km covered.
On Saturday, 16 May, a distance of about 80 km will take riders to Camp Elephant at Erindi Private Game Reserve, where the group will spend the night.
After three long days in the saddle, riders will have the option on Sunday, 17 May, to do another ±100km from Erindi’s eastern gate on district roads to Okahandja or to drive back to Windhoek by car. Water points will be arranged on the road, but back-up vehicles are allowed along the entire route.

Entry can be done directly via e-mail to Johan Fourie. A limited number of participants can be accommodated, so get in contact with Johan and reserve you place. Entries close on 20 March 2015
